White uniforms flooded the College Quadrangle last September 12, 2014 for the 2nd White Coat and Pinning Ceremony participated by the MedTech, RadTech, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy and Psychology students of Riverside College. White and Pinning ceremony is a wonderful and meaningful tradition in which the college welcomes the 3rd year students as colleagues dedicated to their chosen career. During this event, junior students of the Medical Laboratory Science, Radiologic Technology, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Psychology present entering students with a white coat and pin, the symbol of clinical service and care. The white coat marks the induction into the medical profession and the transition to becoming a part of the clinical team. It symbolizes the vow to provide comprehensive and compassionate patient care; the oath to define each patient as a person and not their illness; and the promise to keep the patient’s best interest at heart. The students take, in unison, a pledge of professionalism.
Being part of the healthcare team, nurturing the lives of others is a privilege and a noble responsibility. The White Coat placed on each future health care professional is more than a familiar lab coat - it is a cloak of communication, competence, caring, passion, character and service. This day is celebrated by students, their families, alumni, faculty and staff and the Guest Speaker from the Board of Pharmacists, Hon. Marilyn Y. Tiu.
